The WordPress for Education community site was started for educators and educational technologists who are passionate about using WordPress as a learning tool and seek to find the best plugins or hacks that would make it the best alternative to learning management systems like Blackboard. Also, WP in Ed was inspired by conversations and blog posts at The Corkboard, Daniel Bachhuber and The Chronicle. Here at WP in Ed, you will find users discussing ways in which they or their institutions use or have used WordPress as well as what educational plugins they might have released to get the job done.
WordPress has come a long way from being just a blogging tool. It is quickly becoming a worthy competitor in the CMS (content management system) “war” and there are a plethora of colleges and universities that are using WordPress for their site’s CMS. Nevertheless, this site is dedicated to the task of seeing it go beyond that. There are ton of plugins that are released every month and quite a few of those plugins can be used with WordPress to role one’s own LMS (Learning Management System). It is my hope that this site will be the catalyst for colleges, universities, and educators to think about taking WordPress beyond what we may ask or think.
